There are lots of methods of contraception to choose from. Our nurses are able to carry out pill reviews. If you are wanting to start something new please speak to one of our doctors. If you are due for a contraception review this can be done by making an appointment with the Practice Nurse.

The Mirena Coil can be used for contraception which lasts for 8 years (previously this was 5 years but guidance updated in January 2024).  If you had your coil fitted for contraception cover prior to this it will now cover you for 8 years from the date of fitting.

The Mirena Coil can be used to help manage heavy or painful bleeding or can be used as part of Hormone Replacement Therapy(HRT).  It will last for up to 5 years for these reasons.

The Copper Coil can be used for contraception which lasts for 10 years. It can also be used for Emergency Contraception. Please contact the Sexual Health Clinic for further information on Emergency Contraception or for any further Sexual Health Advice.
